About Us

We are Kirk and Lee Underschultz, the owners of Firefly Hollow Enterprises,LLC. We met in 1978 while attending Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship's riding blacksmith program and married two years later. Lee has a B.S. degree in equestrian studies and a B.A. degree in Heritage Arts. She worked in retail for 10 years and then took on drafting duties at a local architect's office before becoming lead drafter and detailer at a museum exhibit design firm where she worked for another 10 years. Lee is a self-taught artist and has won several awards for her artwork starting in High School with her inclusion in the Young Arkansas Artists traveling exhibit in 1976. This honor was awarded to less than 40 winners out of the 1200 entries. She has worked in a variety of mediums over the years including watercolors, acrylics, pencil, ink, stained glass, hot glass, wire, steel and clay. Now she uses her skills to design images to be sandblasted onto glass.

Kirk has a B.S. degree in Forestry and a Master's degree in equestrian studies. Kirk taught farrier science (horseshoeing) at Meredith Manor for several years and then at Hocking College while maintaining a private shoeing practice at the same time. Kirk is currently working on his 26th year in the horseshoeing business with the hopes of soon "retiring" to the sign business. Kirk and Lee both have worked in the forge creating decorative metal objects and they designed and crafted all of the handles for their kitchen cabinets and drawers. They have used their skills to create unique decorative sign hanging hardware for their clients.

Firefly Hollow is located in southeast Ohio in a small town called Little Hocking, close to the Ohio River. It consists of approximately 95 acres, mostly wooded, but there is a clearing in the hollow along a creek. That is where the daylilies are planted. They have survived floods and droughts with minimal care. They decorate the hollow each summer, from June to September, with a glorious display of color that multiplies with each year. You are invted to come discover the wonderful world of the modern daylily. Peak bloom is usually the first week in July. No longer your great grandmother's "ditch lilies". These daylilies are not invasive and come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. They come in just about every color except blue (and they're working on that). There are doubles and singles, spiders and bagels, full forms with eyes and edges and unusual forms with pinching and quilling of petals and sepals.

Firefly Signs is located on the farm in Little Hocking, Ohio just across the Ohio River from Parkersburg, WV. We have created a wide variety of signs for clients such as Lee Middleton Dolls and Fur Peace Ranch. We have also designed and applied graphics for automobiles, fleet trucks, pulling tractors and even a jet ski! We have created cut vinyl and/or full color digital graphic banners for clients ranging from real estate agents and new businesses to private individuals wanting to send best wishes for a birthday or wedding.

We also do sandblasting. We have sandblasted donor bricks and blocks for several fund raising projects. House names and numbers on limestone blocks are another popular item that we produce for local stone and brick companies. Pet memorials utilizing bricks, limestone blocks or natural rocks are another service we offer. Having the gardens it was natural for us to create a line of decorative garden stones using a library of thousands of designs or creating custom designs for our clients. And then the icing on the cake is Firefly Hollow's exclusive line of sandblasted glassware. Utilizing handblown West Virginia glass as our base glass in most cases, our designs consist of mainly nature related designs featuring daylilies, pussy willows, birds and cats & dogs. But new designs are constantly in the works. All pieces are signed and dated to add to their collectible value.

Stop in to see us Monday through Friday from 10am-5pm. If you are lucky, you may catch our official greeter, Ruby, at work. She is the beagle mix who found us and has brought joy to many lives. Ruby loves to greet visitors in between naps. She gives kisses freely (if encouraged). Once she greets you she usually returns to her bed to continue her napping. Ruby has her own line of shirts & accessories and even a vase that bears her countenance. And now, much to Ruby's chagrin we have inherited Hera (my Mom's dog) another rescued beagle mix. Hera provides us with the best alarm system going. Her deer detection skills are greatly appreciated.
